BIO
Mari Velasco is a visual artist, with degrees both in Graphic Design and Psychology from PUC-Rio (Brazil) and a Master's degree in Audiovisual Communication from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (Spain). Her production often arises from a creative process that involves the compilation and reorganization of references such as photos from personal and public archives, travel notes, family albums, magazine clippings and cinema images. Loneliness and feelings of not belonging and isolation have been some of the recurring themes in her artwork.
In 2017, she participated in an artist residency at R.A.R.O, in Madrid, in which she worked with found material from three LGBTQ+ Pride Parades, including the World Pride. In 2020, she was selected for the first edition of the publication Baleia, which aimed to give visibility to women artists from the Federal District. Recently, she did illustrations for the book "50 LGBTQs Incríveis" (50 Incredible LGBTQs), published by Record, and was selected for the 17th National Contemporary Art Salon in Guarulhos. Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, she currently lives and works in Brasilia.
